You Can Help Your MSP Go Green with These 4 'R' Words

You Can Help Your MSP Go Green with These 4 'R' Words

Friday, April 22, 2016 will mark the 46th anniversary of Earth Day. It was started on April 22, 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson to make sure that the media and political leaders were addressing the importance of our environment. We’ve all heard about “Reduce, Reuse & Recycle” for years, but are you implementing these practices in your workplace?  Here at JoomConnect, we’ve developed a list of ways to offset our company’s carbon footprint by using the 4 R’s.

Reduce

Most companies have no idea how large their carbon footprint actually is. You can greatly reduce the size of your footprint by enforcing some simple changes around the office. These changes are very simple and require almost no effort on your part!

  • Turn off computers and monitors when not in use.
  • Turn off lights, when not necessary.
  • If able to, utilize the daylight, by opening windows and blinds.
  • Save paper when printing, by only printing when you absolutely have to.

Reuse

Reusing products may be the easiest and most cost-effective way to cut down on waste. Save plastic bags from shopping trips for desk garbage cans rather than buying trash bags and have dishes that can be washed and reused in the break rooms rather than paper plates and utensils. You can also get creative with this - turn old furniture into new furniture for the office, utilize dressers and tables that you already have, or use empty cans or containers for desk organization.

Recycle

This may be the trickiest part of the process. You can research companies that use recycled materials and buy from them or use them for your printed marketing like newsletters, postcards and brochures. Try buying recycled paper for the office and for your clients. And additionally, place recycling bins in your office space and in break rooms.

Repeat

The concept of repeat is to make these practices habit. These may seem like miniscule ideas, but if all offices made them habits we could greatly reduce the carbon footprint globally.

You can push these ideas into your marketing strategies as well as daily functions. Try focusing on the power of the internet and your email’s capacities to send out e-newsletters and email blasts. If you want to keep your company on the top of people’s minds, electronic communication can reach great numbers of people while minimally stepping on the environment. Check out this site to calculate your business’ carbon footprint. This year Earth Day’s theme is “Trees for the Earth” with a goal of planting 7.8 billion trees. Get your company together and plant some trees on April 22nd, take a photo and post it to your social media accounts to make your clients and public aware that your company is “going green” and doing its best to help the environment.

Ready, set, green light - go!
