How to Use Landing Pages

How to Use Landing Pages

Your website is your voice. People today use the Internet to help find almost everything they're looking for. Even if they're looking for something that cannot be purchased online, they will use the Internet for research. This is why having a good and informative website is so important. Your website is the first impression or your company many people see. Your website is your company's voice, marketer, and lead generator.

How does your website generate leads?

A lead is a potential client or customer that's interested in a topic or service you offer. The best way to generate leads from your website is to have visitors to your website fill out forms. With forms, visitors input information, like questions about your product that will then get sent directly to your email inbox.

How do you get people to fill out forms?

Having landing pages on your website is the best way to get potential customer's contact information. Landing pages contain useful information along with a web form. You cannot have every page be a landing page. It's best practice to only use landing pages with pages that have the specific information visitors are searching for. For example, if you repair computers, you would funnel your website traffic to the landing page titled "Computer Repair." From here, visitors can fill out a form to learn more information about computer repair. Another proven example is to have your landing page offer visitors a whitepaper with tips on simple DIY computer repairs, and the only way they can view the whitepaper is if they fill out a form.

What should be included in a landing page?

A landing page is a place where information is exchanged between the end-user and the owner of the website. A landing page needs to include at least content and a web form. The content needs to explain why they would want to fill out the form, and how they should submit it. A landing page can also contain testimonials specifically about what you're offering, a company logo, and a short video or enticing image.

It should be simple and not contain extra navigation, sidebars, or footers. When building a landing page, ask yourself these questions:

  • What would motivate visitors to fill out the form?
  • What useful information can I offer them in exchange for filling out the form?
  • What information do I need from the visitors?

What about the form?

It's important to think about what information you want to collect. You will then want to include these needed fields in your form. Try to only ask for relevant information since the average user only spends 6 seconds thinking about whether they will fill out a form or not. Six seconds is not a lot of time, you therefore can't afford to ask for information that's irrelevant.

Bottom Line

When building a landing page, think like an end-user. Keep it simple, direct, and relevant. This will get you the leads you're looking for!
